چکیده

Purpose The purpose of this study is to establish an enhanced model the innovation-decision process (IDP), specifically for construction. As context, innovation diffusion theory (IDT) concerned with explaining how some innovations successfully stick whilst others fail propagate. Because theoretical models provide abstracted representations systems/phenomena, established IDT can help decision-making units innovation-related sense-marking and problem-solving. However, these occasionally or require enhancement represent phenomena more successfully. This apparent whenever middle-range seems ill-fitted complexity Design/methodology/approach Qualitative research via 13 semi-structured interviews occurred, participants recruited convenience purposive sampling strategies. forms part a broader mixed-method (n = 246) informed by philosophy pragmatism, investigating applicability classic adoption four-dimensional (4D) building information modelling (4D BIM) UK construction sector. Findings resulted in adaptation existing IDP model, ensuring better contextual fit. Classified as modular-technological-process innovation, 4D BIM its potential planning improvements used vehicle show why, construction, required extensions involving additional stages, decision-action points outcomes. It also aids understanding scholars researchers, through various enhancements reinforcing importance concepts compatibility trialability, types.
